About Us

The voice of women in prison

The View Magazine CIC is a Community Interest Company, limited by guarantee, started by a group of women whilst incarcerated to describe the challenges they faced with the criminal justice system. It is supported by leading banisters, jurists and human rights advocates. The View is an essential tool for anyone who cares about the plight of women in the justice system, the families and networks supporting us, the people representing and advocating for us.

A grass-roots social enterprise and campaigning platform that gives voice to women in the justice system, provides an outlet for creativity, and creates for financial independence.

We are a social enterprise and the only campaigning platform, by and for women of the criminal justice system. Our quarterly print magazine amplifies the voices of criminalised women, provides an outlet for creativity, and brings financial independence.

The View is the only magazine that speaks truth to power about the failings of a system meant to protect women. We campaign for decarceration, effective rehabilitation, and social inclusion. We want money diverted through justice reinvestment, away from criminal justice, punitive outcomes to social justice solutions such as better funded community sentences, non coercive women;s centers and properly funded mental health services. Prison should be the place of last resort, for women who truly present a risk to themselves or to society. Of the 3 300 women incarcerated today, only about 1% are considered to fall into that group

Who is justice serving, by locking up women who need care not cages?

We employ women with convictions, profits are reinvested into producing the magazine and towards policy, campaigns, research and events.
