The View Magazine Spreads its Wings

Important announcement on the View Magazine

The View Magazine’s editorial board has decided to dissolve the limited company and CIC, which was guaranteed by shares and registered as a Community Interest Company with Companies House in England and Wales. The CIC regulator claims to have received complaints about the campaigning activities of the View Magazine and claims that it is against the CIC regulator’s rules for regulated CICs to engage in campaigning activities. The CIC regulator has also mistakenly claimed that CICs should not criticize the government.

The View was set up by serving prisoners to campaign against the deeply flawed English justice system and to platform and amplify the voices of the most marginalized and vulnerable women in society. This is clear in our constitution and founding documents, including our memorandums and articles.

The View’s Companies House account, emails and websites have been hacked since February 2025. We have now successfully moved all web services to a more secure hosting and email provider. However, the leadership team has decided that given all the failings and controversy with Companies House at present, our registration as a CIC is no longer in the best interest of our own beneficiary community or supporters, and the magazine is now a standalone social enterprise.

We thank you for your continued support and commitment to our vision for a fairer justice system and the abolition of the rapidly increasing, unmanageable and uncontrolled prison-incarceral estate.

We will not be limited or oppressed by the overreaching of the British government in an effort to silence the magazine. The View Magazine will continue to be available every quarter online. Our next issue is out on the 31st of December with an exclusive interview with Lily Allen.
