Description
The artist states:
“He used to beat me so badly, my eye looked as if it might pop from the socket. The bruises used to go from my face down my neck, onto my chest and torso. One day I was looking at an old police photograph and I decided he couldn’t have that hold over me anymore. I started to paint my portrait, from that old photo, but instead of bruises I painted my favourite flowers, blooms instead of bruises. My pain became my beauty.”
